Garbanzo beans/Chickpeas known as Chholaa/Boot. It has a nutty taste and is popular in Bangladesh, Pakistan, Burmese, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Indian cuisine and a staple in vegetarian cooking. The high protein content is a good substitute for red meat and its high fibre content helps reduce cholesterol and may be beneficial in the prevention of diabetes. Chickpeas are a very good source of the essential trace element Molybdenum. They are also a good source of folic acid, manganese, iron, magnesium, copper and zinc.

Shola/Boot

Shola/Boot is a healthy and delicious food. They supply energy to the body and keep you full for longer. Chickpeas are highly nutritious and a rich source of protein. Since their protein content is almost comparable to fish or meat, chickpeas are often considered a great alternative to animal protein.

Usage of Chickpeas

• Preparation: Soak chickpeas in water overnight before cooking so they soften, saving cooking time. Drain the water, place the chickpeas in a pot with sufficient fresh water, and boil for about two hours until tender.
• Dishes: Chickpeas can be prepared in various ways, such as chickpea halwa, roasted chickpea curry (Chola bhuna), boiled chickpea stir-fry, vegetable curries, mutton or beef stew with chickpeas, chana dal, and chickpea flour (besan).

Storage Guidelines

• After opening the packet, transfer the chickpeas to a clean, dry, airtight container.
• Seal the lid tightly after each use and store the container in a cool, dry place.
• Consume the chickpeas within 8 (eight) weeks of opening the packet.
• Check the batch number, packaging date, expiry date, and maximum retail price (MRP) printed on the package.
